Is Your Red The Same as My Red?

When we look at the world around us, we are able to do so in a rather remarkable way. Without ever thinking about it, most of us see things with our eyes and we don’t see them in black-and-white but rather, we see them in color. This is a phenomenon that has been studied by many scientists and, outside of those who are colorblind, we all see the world in color.

What you may not realize is that the world is not actually in color, it is our perception of the world and how our eyes communicate with our brain that makes it appear in color. That is why this test is so interesting. When we see something and we see it in color, other people are also seeing it in color but are they seeing it the same as we are seeing it? That is a question, not only for scientists, but for philosophers as well.

Our perception may very well be different from others, which may be why some of us may see a particular color as being different from somebody else. Even if we call it the same color, we may still see it quite differently. It is just one of life’s mysteries that we can ponder.
